#2: SiteGround

SiteGround offers two servers in continental Europe:

  • UK (London)
  • Eemshaven (The Netherlands)

With a great starting price, exceptional handling of high traffic loads, and a truly exceptional support team, SiteGround ticks all the important boxes, and then some.

A very strong recommendation for both beginners and advanced users – as long as you don’t mind their monthly visitor cap (10,000 to 100,000 users, depending on the plan). You’ll also be glad to hear that SiteGround is on our list of hosts with student discounts and hosts with pro-rated refunds.

Starting plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $3.95/mo.
  • Websites allowed: one
  • Storage: 10 GB
  • Suitable for: ~10,000 visitors per month
  • Control panel: cPanel
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days
  • Live chat: 24/7
  • SiteGround WordPress hosting review

#3: Accuweb

One of AccuWeb’s servers is located in London, UK.

Other than a great support team and excellent website load times, AccuWeb is on our list of hosts with free backup restorations and best “free domain” hosts. On top of that, they sell one of the cheapest plans with unlimited websites.

A very strong alternative to SiteGround and A2.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $3.09/mo.
  • Websites allowed: unlimited
  • Storage: 10 GB
  • Bandwidth: 500 GB
  • Control panel: cPanel
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days
  • Live chat: 24/7

#4: Hostinger

At Hostinger, you get to pick between two servers in the Old World:

  • Lithuania
  • The Netherlands

Hostinger offers an incredibly cheap four-year plan that comes out to $0.99 per month. What’s more, you can ask for an even bigger discount via live chat – we were able to negotiate the price down to $0.78/mo.!

Hostinger is on our list of hosts with negotiable prices. They are also one of the web hosts with the cheapest monthly terms.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Official starting price: $0.99/mo.
  • Negotiable prices: yes
  • Websites allowed: one
  • Storage: 10 GB
  • Bandwidth: 100 GB

  • Hostinger shared hosting review

#5: Hostwinds

Hostwinds offers one European data center located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The company offers one of the longest money-back guarantees in the hosting world.

Additionally, advanced users will appreciate the fact that they have one of the highest concurrent database connection limits around.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $2.35/mo.
  • Websites allowed: one
  • Storage: unlimited
  • Bandwidth: unlimited
  • Control panel: cPanel
  • Money-back guarantee: 60 days
  • Live chat: 24/7
  • Hostwinds review

#6: GoDaddy

GoDaddy is the most expensive host on this list, but they offer servers in Europe. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to determine their exact locations.

We generally don’t recommend GoDaddy. Their website is cumbersome and difficult to navigate, their live chat support team can be annoying and downright inept at times, and their servers are overcrowded (leading to more frequent website performance issues).

Still, the fact that they offer very high Inode limits and some of the best email sending limits in hosting can make them an attractive choice to some webmasters.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $5.99/mo.
  • Websites allowed: one
  • Storage: 100 GB
  • Bandwidth: unlimited
  • Control panel: cPanel
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days
  • Live chat: 24/7

Best European WordPress hosting (WP hosts with servers in Europe)

#1: WPX Hosting

One of the best WordPress-only hosts around, WPX lets you choose between hardware clusters located in the US and the United Kingdom.

WPX has performed exceptionally well in our tests, as you can see in our WPX review. Additionally, they offer the best WordPress staging environment you’ll find anywhere.

They also made it into our lineup of hosts with free malware detection and removal.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $20.83/mo.
  • WP sites allowed: five
  • Storage: 10 GB
  • Bandwidth: 100 GB
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days
  • Live chat: 24/7

#2: WP Engine

Although a lot of people wonder why WP Engine is so expensive, this provider offers 19 hardware locations, including four servers in Europe:

  1. Belgium
  2. London, UK
  3. Frankfurt, Germany
  4. Ireland

Overall, considering the price, we would recommend WPX over WP Engine if asked for a recommendation.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $29.16/mo.
  • WP sites allowed: one
  • Storage: 10 GB
  • Bandwidth: 50 GB
  • Money-back guarantee: 60 days

Kinsta leaves the other European hosting companies on this page in the dust by offering six servers in the Continent:

  1. St. Ghislain, Belgium
  2. London, UK
  3. Frankfurt, Germany
  4. The Netherlands
  5. Hamina, Finland
  6. Zürich, Switzerland

Unfortunately, they are expensive considering the storage capacity and monthly visitor limits. Still, the quality of their service is excellent.

Basic plan highlights:

  • Starting price: $30/mo.
  • WP sites allowed: one
  • Storage: 5 GB
  • Suitable for: 20,000 monthly visitors
  • Money-back guarantee: 30 days
  • Live chat: only for registered users (24/7)

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Europe-based hosting

Are the above hosting companies headquartered in Europe?

Not necessarily.

Some of them are based in the United States while other ones have headquarters in a European country.

What matters most from a webmaster’s perspective is that they have servers located in Europe.

A hosting company doesn’t have to be registered in a country to offer hosting servers in that particular location.

Does choosing a server in Europe cost extra?

Sometimes it can. For example, Namecheap charges an extra $1 per month if you choose a server based in Europe over one in the US.

However, most hosts in our rankings above will charge the same fee regardless of the data-center location.

What if my host doesn’t offer servers in Europe?

Not a problem.

You can easily configure your website to work with a content delivery network, a.k.a. CDN.

A CDN is a network of servers located in different countries. A copy of your website is stored on each of these various servers, and your visitors get served content from the server closest to their location.

If you use a CDN, you are no longer bound by the physical location of your hosting company’s servers; you can be sure that your users experience optimal website load times no matter where they are based.

For a CDN, we strongly recommend Cloudflare. It’s free for the majority of websites and is used by some of the highest-traffic websites in the world, including ny.gov, brainly.com, buzfeed.com, and many more.
